SEAN MAY FOUNDATION

The Sean May Foundation will be offering up to $1,000.00 in scholarship funds to high school seniors in Greater Charlotte, NC and college students attending school in the state of North Carolina. Launching 2016 Scholarship applications will be available each school year and recipients will be awarded at the annual “Dinner-4-Champions” the following year during the Champions Weekend.
 

The Sean May Foundation offers four (4) Scholarships to two (2) high school seniors and two (2) college students who excel in academics, sports, or community services and has a financial need:

• One (1) $5,000 Sean May Scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior.

• One (1) $3,000 Layla Rose Scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior.

• Two (2) $1,000 Book Scholarships awarded to two (2) college students. The books scholarship is to be used towards, books, computers or other school supplies only.

 

 

 

 

Application deadline is TBA and completed applications must be postmarked by this date, incomplete applications will not be considered. A Sean May Foundation representative will contact the recipients of the Scholarships. All other applicants will be notified by mail. The scholarship awards will be applied towards the recipients’ first year college tuition that Fall and for the recipients of the Book Scholarship a voucher will be mailed to the student prior to the start of there next semester.

 

 

In order to be considered for any of the Scholarships, the student must meet the following criteria:

• Applicant must be either a high school student enrolled in a public or private school in Greater Charlotte or applicant must be a college student currently enrolled in college in the state of North Carolina.

• Applicant must show proof excelling in academia through maintaining a minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.0 by the end of the second grading period of that school year.

• Applicant must submit an official transcript from the high school and/or college registrar along with a copy of their SAT and/or ACT score (where applicable.)

• Applicant must have an unmet financial need for assistance. In order to prove a financial need, please submit a copy of the household’s W2 form(s) and a copy of the last tax filing (i.e. 1040 form) for all household members.

• Applicant must be accepted to a four year accredited college or university in the USA for high school seniors and enrolled in a four year accredited college or university in the state of North Carolina for college students.  Please submit a copy of the letter of acceptance to the four year accredited college or university.

• Applicant must complete a writing sample as outlined in the application form.3 Letters of recommendation to be submitted by applicant:

  • Either two (2) or more letters from current high school or college teacher(s) or administrator on school letterhead.

  • Either two (2) or more letters from a community based organization, on that organization’s letterhead verifying community service and hours performed.

  • Either One (1) letter from Athletic Director or Coach verifying candidate’s participation in a school sport.

  • Either One (1) letter from manager in current place of employment on company letterhead to show the candidate’s character, proof of community service performed through company.

A panel comprised of the Sean May Foundation staff and Board Members will review, rate the applications and make the final decisions on the recipients of the scholarship awards. The following criteria will be considered equally in evaluating applicants:

• Career Goals

• Writing Sample

• Financial Need

• Teacher/School official recommendations

• Academic Achievement

• Community Service Verification Letter(s)

• College/ University Acceptance Letter

• Sport Participation
